RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) — The City of Racine is preparing for more roadwork. On Monday, a major reconstruction project on Goold Street between Douglas Avenue (Highway 32) and Blake Avenue is set to begin. The project will feature new concrete pavement, updated curbs and gutters, storm and sanitary sewer repairs, and new driveway approaches.

Work will be conducted in two phases. Eastbound traffic will be allowed during Phase 1, while Phase 2 will permit Westbound travel only. On-street parking will be barred on the impacted stretch of Goold Street throughout the project, however alternate side parking restrictions in the area won’t be enforced during the project.

The work is expected to last up to through mid-August, with access to area businesses maintained during construction.

The city already has orange barrels up downtown, with ongoing Main Street reconstruction going on between Goold Street and Melvin Avenue. Phase 1 of that project is fully closed to traffic and is expected to reopen soon. Phase 2 is scheduled to start July 7.
